Meet Gregor, an 11-year-old with a lot of responsibility. He spends his summer watching his 2-year-old sister and senile grandmother. His father disappeared 3 years ago forcing his mother to work all the time. When his sister crawls into an air vent in his apartment building's basement, his whole life changes. They free fall into a fantastic world under their own. The natives have purple eyes and translucent skin and they need Gregor's help. He is reluctant, but he learns of the prophecy and that these Underlanders may have information on his father's disappearance.
