Book Talk Tuesday: Slinky, Scaly Snakes

Title: Slinky, Scaly Snakes
Author: Jennifer Dussling
Illustrator: Photographs, various photographers
Publication information: DK, 1998

Snakes aren't really my thing, but I have been trying to read more nonfiction. I picked up this book because the cover drew me in and I am constantly asked about snake books.

This one is a keeper. Not only are the photographs outstanding, but it is jam-packed with information about these creepy little dudes. Lots of you will like the photos of the snakes chowing down on their various meals, but I think my favorites were the ones of the new baby snakes emerging from their soft leathery eggs. Did you know baby snakes have a tooth that helps them get out of their shell? It falls off after they are born.

Check out Slinky, Scaly Snakes if you want to learn more about these interesting creatures.
